What does it mean to be human?? - The documentary Human is devoted to this elementary question. For his documentary masterpiece, director Yann Arthus-Bertrand and his team interviewed over 2,000 people in more than 60 countries.
The result is several hours of footage that tells the moving stories of people from different nations. The short interview sequences are interrupted with breathtaking nature shots – for the benefit of the viewer, who is confronted with the strong emotions of the people.
"I am one man among seven billion others. […] I have the feeling that humanity is not making any progress. We can’t always manage to live together. Why is that? I didn’t look for an answer in statistics or analysis, but in man himself. "
Everyone is as special as they are unique. Just like the earth – our basis of life, with all its wealth and beauty. One would think that these are enough reasons to live a happy and fulfilling life. Nevertheless, we fight each other and exploit “our” planet to the very end.
The documentary Human looks for the causes of this ambivalence. No area of life is left out: love, religion, gender, tradition, society, death, work, wealth, culture, education, poverty, violence.
Human: touching stories from life
With relentless honesty, Yann Bertrand shows both the dark and the serene sides of humanity. An example of this is the story of a man who killed a woman and her child and yet was forgiven by the grandmother. Or the story of a young girl who was jailed for her pursuit of education but did not lose hope. A prominent voice also speaks: Cameron Diaz tells of her father’s death. The topics range from everyday experiences to absolute exceptional situations. They are as powerful as they are moving.
Human is a valuable collection of stories and images from our world. The documentary asks about responsibility and compassion – for ourselves, our fellow human beings and our descendants. A touching document of our present.
